 The steering wheel is one of the most important elements of a custom car as it is the most visible and manipulated equipment by the driver. Though I found out that not  many people customize steering wheels for their custom cars as it seemed like a hard task only left to the professionals. From the professional end, nobody makes custom  steering wheels neither, they are mostly restored to factory specs or mass produced aftermarket wheels with limited style. So I decided to try customizing a steering wheel  myself to see what process is involved.

 Using design influence of vintage French automobiles, I modified a factory VW steering wheel into a monospoke. Design lines has been reshaped, the horn buttons   fitted with working clocks, the monospoke trimmed with a hand-shaped stainless steel, then finished off with automotive-grade paint for durability. I have since been  frequently commissioned to create more. One of the latest wheels can be seen in the featured cover car of the December 2008 of Hot VW.
