2009 | Wood
One of three chosen designs chosen by a panel to be mass manufactured for Far Coast's (Coke's new coffee brand) social areas during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Specifically designed to further brand Far Coast and create a socially inviting atmosphere. The Infusion Lounge Chair's asymmetrical design invites playfulness through its pattern elements, which allows for a variety of arrangements. Using many ideation techniques such as sketches, scale models, cardboard mockups, full scale prototypes, and 3D renderings, the Infusion team was able to create this finely refined design in only 3 months. The project had many requirements including to promote the Far Coast brand, to create a socially inviting atmosphere for their customers, to fit within the coffee culture atmosphere, to use only dimension lumber, to stay within the manufacture budget, and to be assembled through RTA (flat pack) hardware. To get the optimal ergonomics to suit the worldwide Olympic audience, I was in charge of creating an adjustable ergonomic chair jig which was used to help the entire class. The jig is able to adjust its seat height and angle, armrests, and multiple back supports to get the optimal angles required. The jig will be used in all future furniture classes in the school.
